    The project works with communities and ejidos to characterise and understand the causes of deforestation and forest degradation. It also aims to establish a baseline against which to monitor changes in carbon stocks and design carbon management strategies in forested and non-forested areas. These management strategies include sustainable forest management, forest restoration and improved agricultural practices. Five pilot projects are being tested in various municipalities.
