Project description
Through carbon credit sales from avoided deforestation, the Itombwe Project will protect a large track of sub- and montane rainforest, maintain ecosystem functions and services, conserve endangered montane biodiversity and create sustainable livelihoods for local communities. Activities include: - Establishment of the reserve limits in a participatory manner, - Building capacity for local sustainable resource management, - Rural development and alternative revenue creation, - Engage with the Mining sector to minimize impacts, - Creation of equitable benefit sharing mechanisms for carbon credits
