  • Project description
The Jatropha Curcas grouped project is an agroforestry grouped project that aims to develop biofuel in Mali through the empowerment of rural communities to adopt sustainable practices for Jatropha curcas plantations. For the past five years, Eco-carbone has been promoting a 3 500 smallholders based agroforestry system in the Kita region through it's Malian joint venture : JMI (Jatropha Mali Initiative). This project relies on two pillars : farmers’ land ownership and JMI’s technical and financial commitment. Farmers manage Jatropha establishment, maintenance, harvest, and seed sale from their plantations. Whereas JMI provides technical know-how, training and guaranteed long-term market access for the sale of Jatropha seeds. JMI invests and manages the industrial process of oil and fertilizer production from Jatropha. The production is then sold to the local market.
