  The project boosts the capacity of governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to develop and implement local REDD pilot activities in Indonesia. The afforestation component, for instance, will generate additional income for households in the participating rural communities through commercially usable tree species. It is envisaged that these activities will be implemented in other districts of Indonesia as well, harnessing the model character of the project. In collaboration with an adjacent private forestry concession, forests of high conservation value will be identified and secured as 'no use' areas. Two national parks (Danau Sentarum and Betung Kerihun) will be connected through a 'green corridor' by community-based afforestation of currently degraded land.
