The main goal of the project is to set up a national demonstrational governance and payment system for emission reduction through sustainable forest management which benefits local communities and indigenous people. To achieve this goal, the pilot project will: - Strengthen the capacity of civil society actors in Nepal to ensure their engagement in national REDD-strategies planning; - Facilitate the establishment a sustainable and equitable Forest Carbon Trust Fund; - Develop REDD strategies that can effectively and efficiently monitor carbon flux; - Act as a model to pave the way for new practices in Nepal and to potentially upscale the REDD payment mechanism in post 2012 period.
