  • Project description
The overall development objective of the Pico Bonito Sustainable Forests Project is to sequester carbon, while supporting the restoration of degraded forest habitats and establishment of sustainable income-generation options. This project will help conserve globally and regionally important biodiversity and the important ecosystems of Pico Bonito National Park, through reforestation and protection efforts and support to the local NGO responsible for managing the park. It will also stimulate the local economy and socioeconomic conditions by creating sustainable livelihood options and increasing local investment opportunities. The Pico Bonito Sustainable Forestry Project is made up of two components: (a) Sustainable Forest Management, and (b) Forest Conservation. The project hoped to receive FSC certification for its sustainable forest management component.
