- Project descriptionThe European Union is implementing a project to tackle climate change through sustainable forest management and community development in the State of Sabah in Malaysia. The EU Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) 2011-2013 aims to address deforestation and forest degradation, sustainable forest management, enhancement and conservation of forest carbon stocks with close involvement of the forest dependant local communities. The specific objectives of the project include to enhance institutional capacity of the Sabah Government, to develop necessary systems and tools to implement the State REDD+ Strategy and to implement REDD+ demonstration activities. The project plans to set up three pilot areas in partnership with local communities are in the areas of Kg Gana in Kota Marudu, Kinabatangan River Corridor and Kinabalu Eco-linc zone.
