  • Project description
This project targets sustainable forest management and avoided deforestation on land located in two logging forest concessions next to the Congo and Lomami rivers. This partnership will enable the creation of programs to avoid unplanned mosaic deforestation and forest degradation (AUMDD) close to roads and existing infrastructure; to avoid unplanned frontier deforestation and forest degradation (AUFDD) along roads built by the partner SAFBOIS and promote biodiversity conservation and social capacity enforcement programs. This project will also restore degraded lands in the northern part of the concession to reduce leakage due to wood production and subsistence farming, activities required to meet local population needs. This will also generate afforestation carbon credits. Furthermore, this project will allow to build an evolutive model, based on verifiable data collected in the permanent forest plots, carbon monitoring and socio-economics indicators. It could be considered to include, or at least to take this information into account in a unified national strategy.
