  This is a REDD+ project involving cocoa producing landscapes around the Kakum National park in the Central region of Ghana. This project is one of seven pilot projects which were selected by the Climate Change Unit of the Forestry Commission in 2012.The project aims to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation due to the expansion of farms, and enhance carbon stocks in low shade cocoa farms by planting trees and raising awareness on tree ownership among farmers. The project emphasises the effective adoption of best practices in cocoa production, including improved shade regimes within cocoa farms, inter-cropping, soil improvement, and reduction in the use of agro-chemicals.
