- Project descriptionEcoPlanet Bamboo's project is a reforestation project, utilizing native bamboo, Guadua aculeata, for the regeneration of degraded pasture lands on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. The project has already reforested 1,365ha of degraded land, with another 1,855 underway. The project is designed to provide timber manufacturing industries with a sustainable alternative fiber, thereby further reducing pressure on natural forests. In addition to VCS and CCBA, the project is certified under the FSC for sustainable forest management. EcoPlanet Bamboo is growing Guadua aculeata for high end markets in the U.S. such as flooring, construction and structural products. The project has received approval from the Nicaraguan government. EcoPlanet Bamboo has strict policies on the acquisition of land for project activities. This includes legal due diligence to ensure that there have not been any conflict or disputes over the land within the last decade, acquisition only from private large scale landowners (and not smallholders or community tenured land). The founders of Ecoplanet Bamboo have longstanding connections to the region.
